Welcome to the first installment of a blog series where we share wild stories from our emergency tree service jobs throughout Denton. Day or night, rain or shine, our emergency tree service at Clean Edge Tree Service & Removal can’t be beaten — and believe us when we say every job comes with its share of surprises.
Below is a quick story about one of them.
“There he was … a mountain of a man with a chainsaw.”
The year was 2018, and a destructive tornado had just roared through the Denton area. It was 10 p.m., and we were literally waiting for the phone to ring at any second with someone on the other end needing help. Sure enough, the phone rang, but it was an insurance company calling us directly. Basically, a giant tree had been uprooted and fell on someone’s property, and it needed to be removed ASAP to avoid further damage and potential injuries.
Naturally, we jumped right on it. And as soon as we got there, there he was … a mountain of a man with a chainsaw. He was a UNT professor and was already outside cutting up the tree limbs as best he could until we could get there.
“Hello, sir. How’s it going?” I said. He was such a jacked guy. And to be honest, I wasn’t even sure if he still needed our help.
“I did what I could until y’all got here. Can you finish?” he said.
“Sure thing, sir.”
“One more thing,” he said before I turned to grab our equipment. “Can you grab my hand and help me over to the front door?”
As it turned out, the man was BLIND!
That’s right … he couldn’t see. Yet there he was — mere minutes after a dangerous tornado swept through and sent one of the primary tree limbs crashing through his roof — hacking away outside with a professional-grade chainsaw and 20-inch blade. Don’t ask me how he got the chainsaw started or where he knew to cut. But he clearly knew what to do despite his limitations.
To make a long story short, I realized pretty quickly that he wasn’t joking. He really did need the help, and I graciously took him by the hand and got him back inside safely. We also got the tree handled, and his property was ultimately restored to pre-storm conditions.
Leave Emergency Tree Service in Denton to the Experts
The moral of this story is that while we commend any property owner for doing what they can, it is always better to wait and let a tree service professional take care of it for you. As surprising as it may sound, removing a fallen tree leaning against or on top of a structure is more dangerous than removing a standing tree. The reason is that if you cut the wrong limb or attempt to manually move the tree without properly securing/bracing it first, you risk causing unnecessary damage and possibly bodily injury. Our ISA-certified arborists know how to safely remove a tree without creating additional risks.
We also have the right equipment to ensure you get the best and most efficient results. Some tree service professionals may not offer 24-7 storm clean-up and emergency tree service. The problem is that not everything can wait until another day. We prefer to respond urgently and be there for you no matter what — or when!
